Doors Open Day

The Club will throw open its doors on 26 and 27 September as part of this year’s Doors Open Day in Dundee. The Club rooms are historic and we have around 100 years of history in this building. Come and see our specially created exhibition and find out more about the people, historic and contemporary, who make up Dundee Burns Club.

Born in Kyle – Billy Kay brings memoir to Dundee Burns Club

We are pleased to announce that Scots language activist Billy Kay, who was recently recognised with an honorary degree for his services to the Scots language, is to speak at the club on the 18th of October.

Billy will talk about his new memoir of growing up in Ayrshire, ‘Born in Kyle’, along with music and song by the club’s entertainers. 

Club secretary Graham Ogilvy said, “We are looking forward to once again welcoming Billy back to the club and congratulate him on his recent recognition by St Andrews University for a life-time of service to the Scots language and literature.” 

The event will take place at the club at 2.00pm on Sunday 18th October. 

Music at the Burns Club

Banjo Brian McKay brings hugely talented traditional musicians and singers together for another Music at the Burns Club, the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The next one is Sunday 13 September at 2 pm … keep an eye on Eventbrite for tickets.

Stephen Gethins MSP headlines Club’s St Andrews Night dinner

Stephen Gethins, author of ‘Nation to Nation’ – Scotland’s Place in the World, will propose the toast at our St Andrews Night Dinner to be held in the club on Saturday 28th November. Stephen is a former Professor of Practice in International Relations at the University of St Andrews. and a law graduate of Dundee University. Since May he has represented Dundee City East in the Scottish Parliament.

Music and song will be provided by singer Ian Macleod who is travelling down from Inverness to join us for the dinner and club members will contribute with small pipes, guitars and more.

Demand for tickets is expected to be strong and with only 32 seats at the dinner table, they will sell swiftly. As usual members and associates will be given first shout and enjoy a discounted rate. 

Secretary Graham Ogilvy said, “It’s  going to be a great night – it follows on from the success of last year’s event at which Dr. Paul Malgrati gave the toast. St Andrew’s Night at the Burns Club is a prestigious event in our calendar.”
